Organic Foods

Ayurveda defines health as a state of equilibrium with one’s self. As a traditional system of medicine, Ayurveda offers broad insights about food and health based on certain unique conceptual as well as theoretical positions. Classical Ayurveda texts give a wide range of themes on food. In order to achieve the state of optimal health, one has to have a balance of structural and physiological factors, metabolic and excretory processes, body tissues, senses, mind, and attain a state of self-awareness and contented self.
Food is one of the three pillars of life according to Ayurveda. Ayurveda has classified food on the basis of its appropriateness to body and mind constitution, the five elements and the Tridosa theories. Another way of food classification in Ayurveda is based on the six rasas (tastes): Sweet, Sour, Salty, Pungent, Bitter, and Astringent.
Food can alter moods. As per ayurveda, the six psychological expressions such as lust, anger, greed, desire, attachment, and ego have a close link to foods. Such connections can induce the three states of mind: Sattva, Rajas & Tamas.

FOOD DETAILS

Proper metabolism is key to good health. The metabolic process in the body is driven by the energy called Agni (fire), which has a significant effect on health. In ayurveda there is wholesome and unwholesome food called Pathya and Apathya respectively. Such as, amala, buttermilk, etc are mentioned as Pathya ahara whereas curd is considered Apathya in most dosha imbalanced conditions. There are specific instructions to consume yogurt that should not be taken at night, it should be taken with honey or green gram soup and so on. A patient suffering from a cough is advised to use spices such as garlic and cardamom, long pepper, ginger, and so on. Hence, Ayurveda has its own universally applicable principles, methods, and practices that are very different from biomedicine and modern nutrition concepts.
Along with Ayurveda treatments, Yoga and food support the overall well-being. It helps to maintain the doshas in natural equilibrium. At Moksha, we offer only vegetarian, organic, healthy and balanced sattvic meals & diets. Depending on the state of your health, imbalanced dosha, dominant dosha and treatments, the doctor will prepare a plan for your meals & diets for the duration of your stay at Moksha. If you are receiving treatments other than Panchakarma and Ayurveda retreat, you can enjoy different varieties of delicious vegetarian wholesome meals. But while you are receiving Panchakarma treatments or Ayurveda retreat your meals & diets should be strictly followed in order to add benefit of treatments. Specially, on the day of intensive detoxification of Panchakarma treatments you will be offered very light Pathya diets and progressively reaching to normal meals. During the course of Panchakarma treatments, drinking of cold water, eating or drinking from outside, raw or uncooked foods, heavy indigestible foods, or foods other than prescribed by the doctor are strictly prohibited.
